SUMMARY:Country Cotillion 2024
DESCRIPTION:Full-time homeschool students in the Tulsa Metro area are invited to participate in a cotillion program\, offered by Tulsa Cotillion\, during the 2024 spring semester. \nCountry Cotillion is a class for boys and girls in the 7th through 12th grades\, offering instruction in etiquette\, table manners\, and Country-Western dancing. Tulsa Cotillion’s program consists of five 90-minute class sessions\, plus a final BBQ dinner\, dance\, and party (lasting about 4 hours). \nIn lieu of formal ballroom dances\, Country Cotillion will include instruction in Country-Western dancing\, including: the Two-Step\, the Country Shuffle\, the Country Waltz and Triple-time Swing\, along with 4-5 popular line dances. Students are encouraged to wear jeans and cowboy boots during class sessions. (Completion of the formal cotillion class is NOT a prerequisite to participate in County Cotillion.) \nThe final dinner will be held at Five Oaks Lodge (Jenks\, OK) and include dancing and a BBQ buffet in place of the formal 5-course\, sit-down dinner. Students learn how to serve themselves and pass through buffet lines appropriately. Proper dining etiquette is strongly reinforced\, along with all of the social skills taught during a formal Cotillion class. \nThis course is especially for full-time homeschool students in the Tulsa area. \nFor more information\, visit our Cotillion FAQ page or download a PDF info sheet.

SUMMARY:Beholding the Bard: Studying Shakespeare for Wisdom and Enjoyment
DESCRIPTION:Samuel Coleridge considered the works of Shakespeare: “an inexhaustible mine… of wisdom and intuition\,” that\, without good instruction\, “must remain for ever a sealed volume\, a deep well without a wheel or a windlass.” \nHow does a modern student converse with the greatest writer in the history of the English language with confidence and skill? \nJoin us for Beholding the Bard\, a half-day workshop designed to introduce Challenge III students to the fine art of studying Shakespeare well. In this discussion-plus-instruction seminar\, Abigail Prescott will lead Challenge III students through an exploration of the virtues of knowing Shakespeare\, while developing practical skills to study the Bard for wisdom and enjoyment — throughout Challenge III and beyond. \nThe workshop will address topics such as: \n\nHow can I study Shakespeare classically and actually enjoy it?\nWhat tools can help me understand Shakespeare — and how do I use them?\nHow do I pick\, prepare\, and present my Dramatic Interpretations?\nHow do I prepare to lead class discussion of a Shakespeare play?\nand much more!\n\nA take-home notebook and pizza lunch will be provided. Space is limited\, so scroll down and register today! \n$29 per student\n(FREE to Challenge III students enrolled in CC Midtown Tulsa.) \nThis class is open to students enrolled in a licensed Classical Conversations Challenge III program. Upon making the leap to home education\, she continued to nurture a love of theatre in general — and Shakespeare in particular — through local productions\, church drama ministry\, and by being the only teenager to bring The Complete Works of William Shakespeare to church camp. After graduating cum laude from the University of Arkansas with a Drama degree\, she married her college sweetheart\, and worked in non-profit administration before “retiring” to raise three kids\, and become a second-generation homeschool mom. She currently serves as Challenge III Director for Classical Conversations Midtown Tulsa.
