SUMMARY:A Festival of Lessons and Carols
DESCRIPTION:One of the most beloved traditions of Advent and Christmas from England is a form of worship known as the “Festival of Lessons and Carols.” God’s Word is proclaimed and contemplated in a special sequence of readings\, prayers\, as well as choral and congregational song. Our festival will feature readers from The University of Tulsa community and the Cappella Chamber Singers directed by Kim Childs. The service of lessons and carols was first conceived for use in the Truro Cathedral in the late nineteenth century. It was simplified and adapted for use in King’s College Chapel\, Cambridge in 1918\, by Dewan Eric Milner-White. \nRefreshments will be served following the program.\nFor more information\, please call Sharp Chapel at 918-631-2546.

SUMMARY:An Actor's Carol: One Clown's Dickensian Marathon Towards Redemption
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Theatre at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater\, Oklahoma\, is proud to present a performance of “An Actor’s Carol: One Clown’s Dickensian Marathon Toward Redemption”\, a unique and transformative adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale\, performed by acclaimed actor and Assistant Professor of Performance David Weber. The production will take place at the Student Union Theatre\, December 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m.\, with reception and talk-back afterwards to raise money for the theatre department’s production budgets and experiential learning opportunities for the students. \nThis one-man show\, adapted for the stage by David Weber\, Tim Blewitt and Zach Hilbun\, pushes the boundaries of traditional storytelling by incorporating elements of vaudeville\, clown and mime. The kinetic performance\, punctuated by moments of clarity and hilarity from our Clown’s backstory\, promises an athletic-paced experience that offers a fresh twist on the timeless and redemptive tale. This is the second year Weber has made a stop on campus to give back to the students at OSU\, and hopes that putting the show in a more central location on campus will reach more of the students and faculty in different departments to celebrate the power of Dickens’ story and the art of theatrical storytelling. \nWeber brings a wealth of experience and talent to the stage. Named one of the Top Ten Actors in Atlanta by Atlanta Journal-Constitution critic Bert Osborne\, Weber’s portrayal of Scrooge promises to be a solid display of his wide-ranging acting talents. \nAdding to the festive atmosphere\, the show will feature Christmas Carols performed by an acoustic act before Weber begins\, enhancing the audience’s immersive experience. \n“An Actor’s Carol” is on tour\, having made stops at the Broadwater LA Theatre\, Oklahoma Shakespeare\, Theatre Young Harris in Georgia\, and The Vortex in Austin\, Texas\, showcasing the universal appeal of this innovative production. \nTickets for the production are pay what you can\, with a suggested donation of $10\, or pay in advance to reserve your seat at www.promontoryp.com. SUMMARY:Beholding the Bard: Studying Shakespeare for Wisdom and Enjoyment
DESCRIPTION:Samuel Coleridge considered the works of Shakespeare: “an inexhaustible mine… of wisdom and intuition\,” that\, without good instruction\, “must remain for ever a sealed volume\, a deep well without a wheel or a windlass.” \nHow does a modern student converse with the greatest writer in the history of the English language with confidence and skill? \nJoin us for Beholding the Bard\, a half-day workshop designed to introduce Challenge III students to the fine art of studying Shakespeare well. In this discussion-plus-instruction seminar\, Abigail Prescott will lead Challenge III students through an exploration of the virtues of knowing Shakespeare\, while developing practical skills to study the Bard for wisdom and enjoyment — throughout Challenge III and beyond. \nThe workshop will address topics such as: \n\nHow can I study Shakespeare classically and actually enjoy it?\nWhat tools can help me understand Shakespeare — and how do I use them?\nHow do I pick\, prepare\, and present my Dramatic Interpretations?\nHow do I prepare to lead class discussion of a Shakespeare play?\nand much more!\n\nA take-home notebook and pizza lunch will be provided. Space is limited\, so scroll down and register today! \n$29 per student\n(FREE to Challenge III students enrolled in CC Midtown Tulsa.) \nThis class is open to students enrolled in a licensed Classical Conversations Challenge III program. At this time\, we do not have space for students in other Challenge levels or outside programs.\n  \n\nInterested but can’t make this date and time? Contact us to inquire about additional dates.\n\n  \n\nAbout the Instructor\nAbigail Prescott first fell in love with Shakespeare as third grader\, while appearing in a school production of The Taming of the Shrew. Upon making the leap to home education\, she continued to nurture a love of theatre in general — and Shakespeare in particular — through local productions\, church drama ministry\, and by being the only teenager to bring The Complete Works of William Shakespeare to church camp. After graduating cum laude from the University of Arkansas with a Drama degree\, she married her college sweetheart\, and worked in non-profit administration before “retiring” to raise three kids\, and become a second-generation homeschool mom. She currently serves as Challenge III Director for Classical Conversations Midtown Tulsa.

Starting in May of 2024\, we will share those special dances with you!  We will start with Roman Holiday\, a work that superstar Italian choreographer Luciano Cannito created for Icons and Idols 2020. The second piece of the program will be Dancing In The Streets by Emmy Award winning Broadway choreographer Joshua Bergasse\, who is also known for his choreography of the TV show Smash. Rounding up the celebratory nature of the program will be the return of Celestial Bodies by Andrew McNicol\, commissioned and created to celebrate Tulsa Ballet’s 65th anniversary.
