DESCRIPTION:Registered Homeschool Oklahoma families enjoy FREE museum admission all day!  \nRegister here. \nThe National Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City has planned an exciting day of learning and exploring the new exhibition:\nCaballeros y Vaqueros – Origin of Wester Horse Cultures and Colors of Clay. \nIn Caballeros y Vaqueros learn how the iconic Western cowboy can trace its roots to north and west Africa\, up through Spain and then over to the New World from a fusion of Native American\, European\, African and Islamic traditions. \nStudents can: \n\nLearn rawhide and horse hair braiding\nDiscover the Spanish Americas through gaucho stirrups\, vaquero saddles\, and vistadoras hats\nTry our photo station\nCreate decorative designs to take home\n\nColor of Clay explores the cultural and regional diversity of indigenous ceramic vessel traditions in North America.  Vibrantly colored and sculpted with absolute precision\, clay pots\, bowls\, pitchers\, and jars were a dominate fixture of Native American daily life and are today viewed as one of the most notable Native American art forms. \nStudents can: \n\nDraw a pottery design or sketch a favorite from the exhibition\nCreate a pinch pot\nPiece together a pottery puzzle\n\nActivities available while supplies last.  Brown Bag lunches are encouraged!  Lunch space available on a first come first serve basis. \nJoin the Western Movie Matinee at 1:00 p.m. for Doris Day’s Calamity Jane!\nCalamity Jane combines comedy and music with the historic character of Calamity Jane.  Acted with lively endergy by Doris Day\, this Western turns ito a romance when she married the famous Wild Bill Hickok\, played by Howard Keel.  101 minutes.
