SUMMARY:Woolaroc: Mountain Man Camp
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn how to throw a tomahawk or shoot a black powder long gun? The Mountain Man Camp is the place to be! Guests are transported to a 1840s fur traders’ camp where they experience hands-on engagement with our mountain men who educate and entertain. A big hit for all ages! Woolaroc’s Mountain Man Camp\, led by brothers Wes and Roger Butcher\, is a living history event that recreates the life of a fur trader in the 1840s. The camp features a very realistic reenactment of a Fur Trader’s Camp from around 1840. Guests can learn about how tipis were constructed to protect the traders from the elements of the weather and how they were made to assemble and disassemble for quick travel.

SUMMARY:Beholding the Bard: Studying Shakespeare for Wisdom and Enjoyment
DESCRIPTION:Samuel Coleridge considered the works of Shakespeare: “an inexhaustible mine… of wisdom and intuition\,” that\, without good instruction\, “must remain for ever a sealed volume\, a deep well without a wheel or a windlass.” \nHow does a modern student converse with the greatest writer in the history of the English language with confidence and skill? \nJoin us for Beholding the Bard\, a half-day workshop designed to introduce Challenge III students to the fine art of studying Shakespeare well. In this discussion-plus-instruction seminar\, Abigail Prescott will lead Challenge III students through an exploration of the virtues of knowing Shakespeare\, while developing practical skills to study the Bard for wisdom and enjoyment — throughout Challenge III and beyond. \nThe workshop will address topics such as: \n\nHow can I study Shakespeare classically and actually enjoy it?\nWhat tools can help me understand Shakespeare — and how do I use them?\nHow do I pick\, prepare\, and present my Dramatic Interpretations?\nHow do I prepare to lead class discussion of a Shakespeare play?\nand much more!\n\nA take-home notebook and pizza lunch will be provided. Space is limited\, so scroll down and register today! \n$29 per student\n(FREE to Challenge III students enrolled in CC Midtown Tulsa.) \nThis class is open to students enrolled in a licensed Classical Conversations Challenge III program. At this time\, we do not have space for students in other Challenge levels or outside programs.\n  \n\nInterested but can’t make this date and time? Contact us to inquire about additional dates.\n\n  \n\nAbout the Instructor\nAbigail Prescott first fell in love with Shakespeare as third grader\, while appearing in a school production of The Taming of the Shrew. Upon making the leap to home education\, she continued to nurture a love of theatre in general — and Shakespeare in particular — through local productions\, church drama ministry\, and by being the only teenager to bring The Complete Works of William Shakespeare to church camp. After graduating cum laude from the University of Arkansas with a Drama degree\, she married her college sweetheart\, and worked in non-profit administration before “retiring” to raise three kids\, and become a second-generation homeschool mom. She currently serves as Challenge III Director for Classical Conversations Midtown Tulsa.
